Ducted System Air Conditioning

Ducted system air conditioning is a highly efficient and effective solution for cooling and heating multiple rooms in your home. With the ability to provide centralised climate control, ducted air conditioning offers unparalleled comfort and convenience. At Mitsubishi Electric, we are experts in air conditioning, offering a wide range of ducted system units designed to meet the unique needs of your home.

Heating and Cooling for Multiple Rooms

When it comes to maintaining a comfortable indoor environment in multiple rooms, ducted system air conditioning is the ideal choice. This innovative solution allows you to cool or heat your entire home, providing consistent and even temperature distribution. By utilising a network of ducts concealed in the ceiling, conditioned air is delivered to each room through strategically placed vents. Whether you want to cool down during the scorching summer months or stay warm and cosy in winter, ducted air conditioners ensure a pleasant atmosphere throughout your home.

Ducted Air Conditioning Installation

The installation of ducted air conditioning systems requires professional expertise to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. Installation generally requires positioning the indoor unit in a central location, in the ceiling, and connecting it to a series of ducts that run to each room. The outdoor unit, which houses the compressor and condenser, is installed outside the home. It is crucial to have a qualified technician handle the installation to ensure proper duct sizing, tight connections, and efficient airflow.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The key components of a ducted air conditioning system are an outdoor unit, an indoor unit that is typically installed inside the ceiling space, as well as Mitsubishi Electric controls, and a range of field supplied accessories, including air ducting to distribute air throughout your home.

All current Mitsubishi Electric ducted air conditioning units are compatible with the optional Mitsubishi Electric Wi-Fi control. Wi-Fi control requires the installation of an additional adaptor called MAC-568IF-E Wi-Fi Controller (available from your Mitsubishi Electric air conditioner installer).

Zoning is the ability to turn off a section of your ducted air conditioning system when not in use. The Mitsubishi Electric Zone Controller expands functionality, delivering conditioned air where you want it in the home/office. With the ability of creating up to 4 or 8 separate zones, why condition air in unoccupied areas?

Yes, the zone control is compatible with the Wi-Fi module.

Single-phase power is the standard method of power distribution for electrical power and lighting in residential applications at 240 Vac.

Three Phase power is generally used for large capacity air conditioning units at 415 Vac

When selecting an air conditioner please consult a specialist to ensure the correct power supply is available.

Ducted and bulkhead units are both ceiling mounted systems, but essentially a bulkhead system is designed to provide air conditioning to a single room whereas a ducted system provides air conditioning to multiple rooms.

Static Pressure is the amount of pressure an AC unit needs to overcome friction inside the ductwork. The longer the duct the more static you need. High Static ducted systems are suitable for larger houses or commercial spaces with greater amounts of ductwork. Medium Static ducted systems are used in smaller/medium sized homes that have a shorter duct requirement.

A heat-pump air conditioner provides both heating and cooling. This allows you to ensure comfortable temperatures in your home all year round.

EER stands for Energy Efficiency Ratio and represents an air conditioner’s cooling efficiency

COP stands for Co-efficient of performance and represents an air conditioner’s heating efficiency

R32 is a low GWP (global warming potential) Refrigerant. R32 enables increased energy efficiency compared to R410A, with just one third of the GWP, the risk of environmental harm is greatly reduced.

For an energy-efficient home during winter, ducted air conditioning can be a great choice. If you have multiple rooms or large open spaces to keep warm during winter, installing a ducted air conditioning system can have many benefits. While a wall-mounted split system or portable heater heats a single room, a ducted air conditioning system has the benefit of being hidden in the roof space with ductwork going to each room, which allows you to heat multiple areas in your home at once.

A ducted system can save on installation space outside by using a single outdoor unit, reducing the area required compared to installing multiple split systems. And inside, a ducted unit is discreet and out of the way, as the ductwork runs through the roof space to each room and does not use valuable wall or floor space, which also makes it a very quiet and unobtrusive form of heating.

Ducted air conditioning operates by drawing air from the home through a return air grille, passing it over a refrigerant coil in the indoor unit, and then distributing the cooled (or heated) air through a network of ducts. The ducts are strategically placed in the ceiling, delivering the air to each room through vents or diffusers.

Ducted systems have an outdoor unit that houses the compressor and condenser. This outdoor unit is responsible for releasing the heat extracted from the indoor air during the cooling process. The outdoor unit is positioned outside the home, in a ventilated position, ensuring efficient operation and minimising noise inside the home.

The installation of a ducted air conditioning system involves positioning the indoor unit in a central location, inside the ceiling, and connecting it to a network of ducts that distribute the cooled. or heated air throughout the home. The outdoor unit is installed outside the home, in a ventilated position with interconnecting refrigerant pipes and electrical wiring to the ducted indoor unit. Professional installation is essential to ensure proper sizing, sealing, and insulation of the ductwork, as well as the correct placement of the indoor and outdoor units.

For new home builds, your installer may install the indoor unit, ductwork, refrigerant piping and electrical work before the gyprock is installed. The outdoor unit can be installed and connected at a later stage. Speak to your installer about this process.

The installer must have the appropriate Refrigerant Handling Licence (RHL) to install a ducted air conditioner.

Your nearest Mitsubishi Electric Specialist Dealer has the required RHL and can provide you with advice and a quote for installation of a ducted air conditioner.

Ducted air conditioning systems offer precise and customisable temperature controls. With optional zoning capabilities, you can turn different rooms or zones in your home on or off. This level of control ensures that you can achieve the desired heating or cooling in specific areas of your home without wasting energy on unoccupied spaces.

The addition of optional temperature sensors can improve temperature monitoring which assists in maintaining comfort in the home.
