Split systems are one of the more popular air conditioner types. These units are made up of two main components: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The indoor unit is typically mounted on an internal wall or ceiling and houses a heat exchanger, air filter, and fan. Outdoor units are generally positioned outside of a building and contain the compressor and another heat exchanger. These two units are interconnected by refrigerant pipework and electrical cables.
When operated in cooling mode, the indoor unit will draw in the warm air of a room, pass it over the evaporator coil filled with cold refrigerant and circulate it back into the room.
