Questions for Wireless Products – A101/A111.
4.1 The wireless network I want to connect to has WEP/ WPA-PSK encryption active. How do I enable encryption on the A111?
A. To set up your A111 for WEP encryption, please do the following:
WEP Encryption
This is a medium level of security that only allows users with the correct Passphrase or Encryption Key access to the wireless network. To set up your A111 Wireless Card Adaptor:

7. Click on the Config button on the left-hand side of the Wireless Settings window.
8. The Config window will appear. Select the Encryption tab at the top of the window.
9. Set the Network Authentication to Shared
10. Set the Data Encryption to WEP.
Now, within the Wireless Network Key submenu:
11. Set the Key Format and Key Length.
12. Now, click on Automatic Generation, then enter the Passphrase into the provided text box. The Passphrase will be the same as the one assigned within the Gateway/Router's wireless settings.
7. Once these settings have been put in, click the Apply button on the left-hand side of the window.
WPA-PSK Encryption

This is a high level of security that only allows users with the correct Wireless Network Key access to the wireless network, and is only available to systems running Windows XP. To set up your A111 Wireless Card Adaptor:
1. Click on the Config button on the left-hand side of the Wireless Settings window, then click on the Encryption tab at the top of the window.
2. Set Network Authentication to WPA-PSK
3. Set Data Encryption to TKIP
4. Enter your Wireless Network Key into the text box. The wireless network key, which is also referred to as the Passphrase Key in some cases, is assigned within the Gateway/Router's wireless settings.
5. Once these settings have been entered, click the Apply button on the left-hand side of the window.
4.2 The A111 is plugged into the PCMCIA socket, but the blue Power LED is not lit up on the card.
A. Check the following:
1. The A111 needs to be run in a 32-bit CardBus PCMCIA socket. Make sure the PCMCIA socket(s) on your PC meet this requirement.
2. Make sure the A111 is plugged in correctly. Eject the card, then reinsert it and see whether the green LED becomes lit.
3. Does your PC have more than one PCMCIA socket? If so, plug the A111 into the other socket and see whether the green LED lights up.
4. Try the A111 in another PC. If the blue Power LED is not lighting up on another system, then it would appear to be a hardware fault. Contact your vendor about warranty details.
4.3 When trying to access the Control Center, the message “Unable to connect to the wireless LAN card. The tray icon will be loaded once the card is inserted”. The green power LED is lit up on the A111. What should I do?
A: Verify that the driver has been loaded correctly. To do this:
Right click on the My Computer icon and select Properties. Next, click on the Hardware tab, then select the Device Manager button. In Device Manager, double-click the Network Adapters icon; you should see 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Card with an icon of an expansion card. There should not be a “!” or “?” (problem) or “x” (disabled) symbol over this icon. If there is an exclamation mark or question mark next to the icon, please refer to the next FAQ. (NOTE: you need to have installed the A111 Drivers/ Utilities from the CD provided with the A111 – the driver will not install properly otherwise.)
4.4 There is a yellow exclamation mark or a yellow question mark in Device Manager in front of my A111 card.
A. To resolve the problem, you should update/reinstall the A111 card driver. In Device Manager, right click the 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Card, select Properties, and select the Driver tab. Click on Update Driver button, then follow the “Update Device Driver Wizard” to complete the driver installation.
4.5 There is a red cross in front of my A111 card in Device Manager.
A. The red cross indicates the A111 driver has been disabled. To enable the driver, right click on the 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Card icon and select Enable.
4.6 I cannot see the wireless network I wish to connect to using the Site Survey tool in the Wireless Settings utility. What is going on?
A. Check the following:
1. You may be too far away from the wireless network’s area – try moving closer to the access point/ station, and run the Site Survey again. If you can’t move closer to the access point/ station, you may need to add an another Access Point to your wireless network to boost the signal strength.
2. There may be obstacles causing interference with the radio signal. Make sure there are no large metal objects or devices that may generate a radio signal (e.g microwave ovens) in the general path to the access point/ station.
3. The wireless network point you are trying to access may have the “Broadcast SSID” function disabled. Change this to be enabled.
4. Make sure that the A101 is not set to run in Ad-Hoc Mode in the Wireless Settings utility. To check this, run Wireless Settings, then click on the Config button on the left-hand side of the window and select the Encryption tab.
4.7 The link quality to my wireless network is bad. It either constantly drops out or the signal strength level is low. How can I fix this?
4.8 I am running the A111 on a PC that is running special applications, and I have a problem where the Control Center application (center.exe) is not loading correctly on boot-up due to these special applications. How can I set the Control Centre application not to automatically load at boot up?
A. Right click on the Control Centre icon in the taskbar and select Preferences, then uncheck the "Launch Control Center on startup" option.
4.10 I can connect to the wireless network OK but can’t connect to the Internet through the wireless network.
A. Check your Connection Settings in Internet Explorer:
1. Open Internet Explorer, then go the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
2. Click on the Connections tab, then select the LAN Settings button.
3. In the LAN Settings window, make sure the “Automatically detect settings” option is checked, and that any Proxy Server options are unchecked.
If you have another network card in the computer, try disabling it.
1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
2. Click on the Hardware tab at the top of the System Properties window, then click on the Device Manager button.
3. Double click on the Network Adaptors category, then right-click on your other network adaptor driver(s) and select Disable.
4.11 I’m having trouble connecting to Ad-Hoc network with the A111?
A. Please check the following:
1. Make sure the SSID is set correctly. Run the Wireless Settings utility, click on the Config button on the left hand side of the window, then make sure the Network Name (SSID) is set correctly.
2. Check that your encryption settings are correct. Run the Wireless Settings utility, click on the Config button on the left hand side of the window, then click on the Encryption tab on the top of the window. Check with your Network Administrator that the encryption settings you have set are correct.
3. You may be too far away from the wireless network’s area – try moving closer to the wireless network area, or add an Access Point to the wireless network to boost the wireless network’s signal range.
4. There may be obstacles causing interference with the radio signal. Make sure there are no large metal objects or devices that may generate a radio signal (eg microwave ovens) in the general path to the wireless network.
