Section 2: FAQ Questions for Wireless Products - R100
2.1 Q. I have the R100 plugged in, but the blue Power LED is not lighting up on the front.
Check the following:
1. Reseat the power connector at the back of the R100 and make sure it's turned on at the power point.
2. Test the power output of the AC Adaptor using a Digital Multimeter.
If you have checked both the above and are still not seeing the blue power LED light up. Contact your vendor.
2.2 I'm unable to access the R100's Quick Start utility through my web browser. The blue Power an Air LED's are on.
Check the following:
If none of the above helps, please contact Technical Support
2.3 My wireless device cannot communicate with the R100 Wireless gateway.
A. Check the following:
Try bringing the wireless device closer to the R100 as it may be out of range.
Confirm that the AIR and LINK LED's on the R100 are lit and other wireless devices are connecting to it OK (if possible).
Confirm that the SSID of the R100 and the device are the same.
Confirm that the Encryption settings of the device match the settings of the R100.
If Access Control is enable on the R100, make sure that the MAC address of the wireless device is included or excluded (depending on the ACCEPT OR REJECT option).
If the wireless device is 802.11b ONLY, check to make sure the R100's Wireless Mode option is not set to 54G Only, as this will prevent your device from communicating with the Gateway
2.4 The client's connection speeds are slow. How can I fix this?
A. To get the best connection speeds, verify that the antennas of the R100 and the clients wireless device are well placed. Also check that the devices are not behind large metal objects, or have too many obstacles between them, or be close to any devices that might also generate RF noise (eg. a microwave oven, Bluetooth device etc). If you move a clients system closer to the R100 and throughput increases, you may want to consider adding a second R100 Gateway as an access point to increase the wireless signal strength.
Check antenna, connectors and cabling
Verify network traffic does not exceed 37% of bandwidth.
Check to see that the wired network does not exceed 10 broadcast messages per second.
Verify wired network topology and configuration.
2.5 I want to connect my ADSL modem to the R100 via the USB port on the gateway. Is this possible?
A. No. The R100 doesn't support USB ADSL modem connections.
2.6 Can a USB hub be used with the R100 to connect multiple storage devices/ printers.
A. Yes, but you cannot use more than one printer, and due to memory limitations, webcams can only run by themselves, and it is recommended you have no more than two other USB device types plugged into the hub (eg. one USB disk and one USB printer)
2.7 Can a USB and Parallel port printer be used at the same time on the R100?
A. No, only one or the other.
2.8 I've entered a website/ keyword into the URL Filter but it can still be accessed. Why can't I block this site?
A. Go into the Control Panel and double click on Internet Options. Under the General tab, delete Cookies, delete Files (including offline content) and delete the History, then restart the computer and see if the same thing occurs. If so, check to see if the website URL you wish to block is being automatically redirected to another address - if so, try adding the redirected address to the list of blocked URL's, then repeat the above steps (delete cookies/files/history and restart computer).
2.9 I can't log into the R100 browser based management utility. It comes up with a pink screen and an error message "401 Unauthorised Access"
A. Make sure the Caps Lock key is not active on the keyboard. If the username and password are still not being accepted reset the Gateway using the button on the back of the R100.
2.10 After trying to perform a firmware update, the R100 is no longer working. What should I do?
A. Try restoring the R100' firmware using the Firmware Restoration utility that came on the software CD with the R100.
Disconnect the power cord from the back of the R100.
Hold in the reset button at the back of the R100, then while still holding the button in, reconnect the power.
Hold in the reset button for about three seconds then let go of it. The Power LED on the front of the R100 should be slowly blinking.
Wait thirty seconds then go to Start » Programs » R100 Wireless Gateway and select the Firmware Restoration utility.
Use the Browse button to find and select the firmware you wish to use, then click Upload.
Once the firmware update is complete, restart the computer.
2.12 I want to set up one or more additional R100's as access points to connect to my existing R100 Wireless Gateway with Internet access. How can I do this?
A. Please follow the procedure below:
First, you need to set up the R100 Wireless Gateway with the Internet connection (NOTE: It should already be set up in Wireless Gateway mode).
The R100 Wireless Gateway has now been set up - to set up your Access Point(s)
Log in to the Web Browser set-up utility, click on the System Setup button on the left-hand side of the window, then click on the Operation Mode link.
In the Operation Mode window, choose the Access Point option and click Apply.
In the Access Point set-up, you MUST give the R100 a different SSID to the one you're connecting to, and MUST have the Encryption Settings set the same as the one you're connecting to. Click Finish, then Save & Restart.
Next, you need to change the IP address assigned to the access point so it doesn't conflict with the R100 Gateway you're connecting to. Click on the IP Config button on the right-hand side of the window, then click the LAN link. In the LAN options, set Get IP Automatically to No, then in the IP Address box, set your IP to 192.168.1.x (where x can be any number between 2 and 254, as long as it doesn't conflict with any wireless clients IP addresses or other access points). Click Apply, Finish and Save & Restart.
Once Access Point has been set up, click on the Wireless button on the left-hand side of the window, then click on the Bridge link that appears beneath it.
In the Bridge set-up window, set you AP Mode to Hybrid, then click Apply, Finish and Save and Restart.
Your Access Point(s) should now be set up OK.
2.13 Will my USB/ Parallel printer or USB web camera work with the R100?
A. Please refer to the list of compatible printers and supported USB web cameras.
